Below are the answers to some other frequently asked questions for the Ellicott City Y Turkey Trot Charity 5k. If you do not see your question answered below, please leave a comment for us and we will be sure to post an answer.

What am I supporting when I run? A portion of your registration fee and all donations benefit The Y in Central Maryland, a charitable organization, which supports children in need in Catonsville and Ellicott City. Please read more about our cause HERE.

Are donations tax deductible? The Y in Central Maryland is designated as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. Your contribution is tax deductible in accordance with IRS regulations. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We'll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation. For a copy of our current financial statement, please contact us at 303 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21204 or 443-322-9622.

Do I have to be a Y member? No, all are welcome!

Can I walk (instead of run)? Of course. You are welcome to run, walk, trot, skip, just keep moving forward!

Are children welcome? Absolutely! Children six and under register for just $5! Youth ages seven through 17 register for $20!

Are dogs allowed? Yes! Dogs who are registered for the event will receive a 2017 Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K bandanna. Dogs do not have to register, but only those who register will receive a bandanna. We also ask that dogs who attend: are well socialized, well behaved, on leash at all times, and line up at the back of the pack.

Are strollers allowed? Yes! Strollers are permitted on the course; however, we ask that for safety reasons you line up at the back of the pack.

Is there a family/group discount? Since this is a fundraiser for those in need, we do not discount registrations, BUT you may register as a team.

What if I can’t make it after I have registered and paid for the event? Your registration fee will not be refunded if you do not attend. Your fee helps families in Central Maryland that are in critical need of assistance.

Do I have to pay for my child to run with me? Yes, everyone must register. Children being pushed in strollers do not require an individual registration.

Where do I pick up my numbers, race package, timing chips?  Packet pick-up information is listed above.

Do I need to come to packet pick up or can I get my shirt and number the morning of the event? If it is necessary for you to pick up your packet the morning of the 5k, you can do so. We strongly encourage you to pick up your packet in advance to avoid standing in line the morning of the event.

Can I send someone to pick up my packet for me? Yes, that person will have to initial that they picked up your packet in case there is any question.

What if it rains? Y Turkey Trots are held rain or shine!

Where is the start/finish line? The 5k starts and finishes at the Long Gate Shopping Center.

What time should I arrive? If you are already registered, please plan to arrive at the event at least 30 minutes before start time (by 8:00 am). If you are registering Thanksgiving morning, please plan to arrive at least one hour before the 5K begins.

Where do I park? At the Long Gate Shopping Center or the The Dancel Y in Ellicott City.

Are there prizes? Yes – Medals will be awarded to the top three runners in each age group! Fundraising prizes will be awarded in the weeks following the event.

Is the race chip timed? Yes! All runners, except Children and dogs, are timed.

Where can I find the race results? Race results can be found on the Charm City Run website.

How do I get my t-shirt? You can pick up your t-shirt when you pick up your packet either at the packet pick up times or the day of the event. Remember that if you register 5K morning, you are not guaranteed a t-shirt.

    1. Hi Trisha - The top finishing runners will receive from great Y gear with our new logo. These will be things like a high quality water bottle or mug. The top three overall fundraisers will get to pick their prize from autographed O's and Ravens' gear. The top fundraisers in each region will receive gift cards to local restaurants and/or businesses. Quite a few options!

  2. What is the exact route of the race? Does the run proceed from Long Gate Pky onto 103 and down to Meadowbrrook and back? A lot of hills?

    1. Hi - Yes, for a short period of time. The neighborhoods impacted will receive a letter next week and we will be able to share specifics next week - details are being finalized. Thank you and we hope this does not disrupt your Thanksgiving morning plans and that you join us out on the course!

  6. Would you please include in that letter, that no one will be locked in their neighborhood, and if you have to get out, you will be able to.
Thank you for calming the fears of the few.

  7. OMG. I have tried asking this question 4 times but the site keeps directing me to something else. ALL I want is to make sure my team was registered as I only see one name and I put in 5 last night. I need to make sure that Greg, Charlene, Mary and Jacob Zook were all registered as my credit card went through. Thank you.

  10. I just created a team with four members. Our team website says there are only two members. How can I see who is on my team? Also, what do I need to bring in order to pick up the team's packets?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Angela - Thank you for registering! In order for all four team members to show up on your team page online you will have needed to use a unique email address for every runner. In order to pick up your packets, please just bring the names of those you are picking up for. We look forward to seeing you next week!

    2. Ohhh.. okay. Are they still on my team though? They are kids. They don't have email addresses that I'd like to share.

    3. Yes, they just will not show up online as part of your team. Happy Thanksgiving!

    4. Where exactly is that? I can't find their names anywhere on the team page. I used the same email address for all of them. Is that why I can't see their individual names?

  11. My team is listed twice when people try to join my team. I did not create two teams.

    1. Hi Christina - People like to register as a team for comradery and to motivate each other for fundraising. Some runners get team shirts made or dress in themed costumes. Just a fun way to stay connected to other people who are running/walking in the event!

  17. After registering, is there any way to verify WHICH city I registered to run the race in? My receipt and none of the e-mails I received after registering provide this information and I'm not sure if I actually signed up to run in Westmister or Elicott city (or maybe Towson?). Can I show up to any of the locations, pickup my numbers and expect to race?

    1. Hi Amber - Please email us turkeytrot@ymaryland.org with your first and last name and we would be happy to confirm your registration. You have to attend your corresponding location's packet pick-up. Thank you!

  18. Our Dad ran his first 5K this morning at the age of 82. We would like to see the age bracket of 80-90 instead of grouping everybody over the age of 70 into one category. Every adult age bracket is grouped by decade and we feel those over 70 should receive the same consideration. Thank you for a feat race this a.m. Our team ranged from age 10 to 82 and we enjoyed every minute of the Turkey Trot.

    1. That is amazing! Congratulations to your dad! Thank you for the feedback - you make a very good point. We want to encourage all ages to come out Thanksgiving morning and inadvertently our awards do not represent that. Thank you for bringing the entire family out and we look forward to awarding your dad a medal next year!

  20. How long will the course be open hour-wise?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The course closes behind the last runner/walker. We ride behind them and pick up the cones :) At a walking pace the course should only take an hour at the most!

  21. I have a strange goal to do lunges for the whole 5k and it will take me about 2 hours. Is this not possible to do?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you for choosing to spend Thanksgiving morning participating in an event dedicated to health, wellness and community! That is quite the goal! Our permit only allows the course to be open for an hour, as to not hold up local traffic. We still hope you will join us and mix your lunges into a walk/run pace.
